Answers to the most common travel nursing questions.

I’m a and I would like to

There are four things you’ll need to become an MSG Staffing travel nurse or allied healthcare professional:

  1. At least one years’ experience in your specialty
  2. At least one year of recent acute care experience
  3. A current RN license

You’ll need to complete our application process, which includes skills checklist, testing, reference checking, etc. Read an overview of our Application process.

Typically, an assignment will last four to 13 weeks. You may be offered the opportunity to extend the assignment should circumstance warrant. Many of our nurses have stayed on assignment at a particular hospital for over a year, but this is never an expectation and is at the discretion of the employee. At MSG, we understand our nurses’ and allied healthcare professionals’ needs for flexible scheduling and respect their right to extend or not extend, depending on their personal needs and lifestyle. There is never any pressure from MSG since our goal is to improve the lives of our candidates, clients, team members, and community.

We have assignments available all across the United States. For up-to-date information on our current job postings, visit our Job Search page. You can also sign up to receive announcements of the latest jobs by email (coming soon), or call us at 888-674-7676.

Again, that’s up to you. If you enjoy the excitement of flying to new locations on little notice, we can accommodate that. If you prefer to have a more leisurely preparation period, we can accommodate that, too. MSG has hundreds of job openings at any given time. This allows us to accommodate the unique needs and preferences of almost any nurse or allied healthcare professional in an effort to improve their lives by helping them find the perfect travel assignment.

MSG travel nurse or allied healthcare professional assignments have guaranteed hours. The number of hours depends on your specific assignment, and you may work 32 to 60 hours per week depending on the facility. Any hours you work over 40 per week are eligible for overtime pay. (In California, any hours worked over 8 per day are overtime.) When we say hours are guaranteed, we mean it. If your facility does not schedule the required hours or cancels your shift, MSG Staffing will pay you for the guaranteed hours, providing you were available to work.

While it can vary from assignment to assignment, MSG travel nurses and allied healthcare professionals typically earn far more than staff nurses and allied personnel. Our pay rates are among the highest in the travel healthcare industry. MSG travel nurses typically make up to $20,800 by the end of their 13-week assignments. All of our employees receive their paychecks weekly.

Beyond the benefits of working when and where you want, we offer our travel nurses and allied healthcare professionals a highly attractive benefits package since we understand that improving your life goes beyond a salary. Like our stunning pay scale, our benefits package is one of the best in the industry and includes Medical and Dental, a 401(K) savings plan, free educational opportunities, licensing reimbursement and more. Absolutely – and the number of referral bonuses you can earn is unlimited. No. MSG Staffing always pays for travel and housing. Plus, we arrange all the details for you, so all you have to do is pack your personal belongings and hop on the transportation we provide. The only thing you pay for out of pocket is the cost of ground transportation to and from your lodgings, which is reimbursed in your paychecks as an additional sum above your salary.

We understand that being away from home can be tough. That’s why we work hard to provide safe, private and convenient housing options located as closely as possible to your assignment. Regardless of where your assignments take you, we’ll work diligently to find you housing that’s secure, clean, well-appointed and equipped with the amenities you need to be comfortable. If you have specific housing requirements, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
